Our Quarantine Procedures
We value the health of all the animals that
live here at our sanctuary and this is why we quarantine each animal
that comes here to live.
We ask for any written veterinary information, how the animal was
kept by the owner, the enclosure, diet, etc. By knowing this we can
understand a bit more about the animal's health & problems that
might come up.
No matter how the animal was cared for it will always go into
quarantine for at least 30 days. If we have no prior knowledge of
how the animal was kept it will remain in quarantine for at least 60
days.
By keeping the animal isolated we can closely monitor its mental
health as well as its physical health.
If an animal has been in quarantine for 58 days, just an example,
and a new arrival is placed into quarantine any existing animals
quarantine period goes back to day 1.
All quarantine animals are kept separately from the sanctuary
residents. These animals have their own feed, their own dishes and are always cared for last after resident animals.
Pigeons & doves receive their vaccinations and wormed once it’s been determent that they have no under lying health problems. Any other physical problems will be addressed.
Tortoises will get a fecal smear for parasites. If they have any shell, nail, or beak problems or minor wounds these will be addressed properly.
All animals will be put on a proper diet determined by their species. Torts & turtles will be set up separately in a species specific enclosure.
If an animal has any health problems that we can not address that animal will be taken to the appropriate veterinary.
Once that animal is given a clear bill of health it will either be placed into an enclosure with its own species or will be set up in an enclosure of its own.
